In late spring each year, when the difference between indoor and outdoor temperatures is minimal, open your storage room to allow for air circulation. Take out your new carbon-fiber fishing rods and gently wipe away any accumulated dust from each section using a piece of chamois leather or a microfiber lens-cleaning cloth. For older rods, apply a thin layer of polishing wax after wiping off the dust to maintain their luster and shine (waxing is unnecessary for new rods). Then, return the rods to storage. If you do not have a dedicated storage room, you can use a storage cabinet with tightly fitting doors to house the rods. Place the cabinet away from direct sunlight. Ensure the indoor temperature remains below 28–30°C in the summer and between 18–20°C in the winter.
Never display fishing rods by fully extending and mounting them on a wall. Over time, carbon-fiber rods not only accumulate dust-and frequent wiping can dull the glossy finish of the protective waterproof coating-but they are also prone to warping. Furthermore, items made from these types of high-molecular-weight polymers are susceptible to aging caused by three factors: light, heat, and ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Leaving carbon-fiber rods exposed in an open indoor space for extended periods accelerates this aging process. Therefore, storing them in a dark, temperature-controlled room or cabinet is the best way to extend their lifespan.
No more fishing in winter, fishing rods need to be carefully maintained to extend their life. If the carbon fishing rod is not used, it is best to keep it in its original box. After putting it in the original box, do not put it in a normal room, but store it in a dry storage room where the temperature is always between 20 and 25C and the humidity is no more than 60C. If there is no original box for the fishing rod, you should first put it into the cloth rod cover, and then put the fishing rod into the same rod bag. Rod boxes and rod bags should be placed upright in the storage room, not horizontally, to avoid pressure damage and deformation.
