Different Definitions:
Number of Shafts: Refers to the number of core rotating shafts within the reel’s internal transmission mechanism-typically 1 to 3-which are responsible for power transmission and directional changes. For instance, mainstream spinning reels often feature a single-shaft design, whereas drum-style (baitcasting) reels may utilize a dual-shaft structure.

Number of Bearings: Refers to the quantity of ball bearings inside the reel, which serve to reduce friction and enhance smoothness. Common counts range from 3 to 15 (e.g., entry-level Shimano reels typically come with 5 bearings, while high-end models may feature up to 14).

 

Numerical Relationship:
There is no direct correlation between the two. The number of shafts relates to mechanical design, whereas the number of bearings is a parameter for performance optimization. For instance, Daiwa’s LT series spinning reels feature a design with one shaft and seven bearings, while Okuma’s Ceymar series utilizes one shaft and six bearings.
